A Trip to the Island

The first time I stepped foot on Salt Spring Island was in early February of 2023. My husband and I travelled there for a short get-away. We rented a car, drove around the entire thing, oohing and aweing at the whimsical houses and loopy fence lines. The smell of the sea and the drooping trees wrapped me up in a comfortable cocoon. The colors, art, simplicity and slowness of the island calmed me during a time where I felt anxious in life, particularly career-wise.

One of my favourite things in the world to photograph is my own travel memories. I remember my life through photos, and with each one I can recall myself back to the moment I noticed my subject and brought the camera up to my face.

Travel photos speak to me of presence. Of an intentional attention to my own life. They remind me there is beauty all around and feed my hunger to explore and experience planet earth.
